Psalm 91
September 25, 2022
Lord, you are our refuge, the God in whom we trust.
We trust that you deliver us from the snares of the evil one and from the disease of sin that so desires to overtake us.
You have given us ways out of temptation, so we ask that you help us to see them and to take the way of escape.
Lord, help us to spiritually feel and understand the covering you have provided. Like a hen with her young, you have covered us, sheltered us, huddled us together, and called us your own.
And amidst your comfort and care, help us to not fear the seasons of darkness, whether illness or grief, or depression, or anxiety, or loneliness or pain. Help us to feel you wrapping us in your love.
Lord, though we see the pains the world experiences and we feel that pain ourselves, it will not hurt us. For Lord, you have protected us under the shelter of your wings. You have removed the teeth of death’s mouth and it no longer stings us.
Indeed, now in Christ, we welcome death as a bridge to be with you forever.
When we have you as our dwelling place, Lord, no evil can befall us apart from your hand and no sickness can hurt us apart from your sovereign care.
Lord, even your heavenly creatures, the angels are under your command and they come to our aid to strengthen us in ways we will never truly understand, but we thank you for their ministry to us and we ask that you give us eyes like Elijah’s servant whose eyes you opened to see the chariots of fire.
Lord in Christ, all of our foes are small and just a drop in the bucket. They are nothing when we have you as our refuge, savior, advocate, and friend.
And indeed you assure us, “I will deliver him;
I will protect him, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him. I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Lord, teach us to number and name off your wonderful and numerous blessings to us.
Teach us to not look to what is seen before our eyes but to what is unseen. Help us to look to Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith for endurance as we run the race set before us.
Lord, teach our hearts that you care, that you are really there, and you really have our best intentions and outcomes in your heart.
We love you Lord, be with us today by the power of your spirit as we study Romans and bless us with wisdom from above, for we trust you delight to give it.
And all God’s people said … Amen
