Psalm 91
October 20, 2024 Oh Lord, what a delight that we can abide in your shadow, that you cover us and delight to be a Refuge for us.
Your faithfulness is our surest shield.
This morning, Father, we pray for those who are facing terror of any kind, whether
disease or disaster, spiritual snares, relational or financial struggles, or the terrors in
their own minds. Lord, everyone here faces some kind of struggle. Help us to make you
our dwelling place in the midst of the storm. Do not allow evil to befall us, but hold fast
to us in love as this psalm promises. Deliver us from trouble and show us your
salvation.
Lord, we thank you for the 25 students that came with us to Camp Shamineau last
weekend, for the truths they heard from Your Word about where real joy, love, hope,
and peace are found. Our young people face so many attacks and struggles in their
own lives; Father, we pray that You would be their shield and refuge. Hold fast to them
in love, remind them of what is true, and guard their hearts and minds with your peace
so that they will not be swayed by the stories the world tries to tell them to bank their
lives on. Instead, Father, help their faith to grow so that they would experience a lasting
joy rooted in all that You are.
We confess, Father, that we are prone to seek other refuges besides You, whether we
look for them in relationships or jobs or accomplishments or distractions. We repent of
the times we have given way to fear and doubt in the midst of our storms and battles,
forgetting to trust in You. Forgive us, Father, in Your mercy, and by Your Spirit help us
this week both to rest and to work out of a settled trust in Your faithfulness, which has
never failed.
We ask all of this in the name of Jesus, and all God’s people said, Amen.
