Psalm 54

September 22, 2024 Father, Son, Holy Spirit,
Thank you that we get to worship you together here at Centennial Church. We are
gathered together to encourage one another. We lift our eyes to you, and we turn
our hearts toward you, and we put our hope in you. You are faithful, even when
we are lacking in faith. When we are down, you comfort us. You hear our prayers,
even in the difficult times. Verse 4 reminds us “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord
is the upholder of my life.”
Lord, we lift up our members in difficult times. Some of our members are
struggling with their job, where work priorities do not align with our personal
priorities, and make it challenging to glorify you God in all we do. Our work can
feel frustrating and pointless instead of productive. Our members are facing
medical challenges that are depleting our energy and draining us. We intercede
for our friends that are burdened and ask you to be the upholder of their lives.
In election season we are bombarded with messages telling us someone is evil
and seeking to harm you, or harm someone near to you. Thank you for verse 5
that tells us our “enemies’ evil will be returned to them. In your faithfulness put
an end to them.” We have incredible privilege to be a positive influence in our
world. Help us to share your good news with grace and love to our friends and
neighbors. And help us to trust your sovereign will in the outcomes of these
elections.
Psalm 54 ends with verse 7 “For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my
eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.” Thank you for your deliverance in our
past troubles, and thank you for delivering your people for thousands of years in
Bible history. You have triumphed in numerous battles and situations, but you
Jesus triumphed over the grave, and you have promised that you will triumph
again in the future when you will triumph over Satan, and our enemies, and all
evil. And you will triumph in remaking the whole world and you will establish your
perfect kingdom, with you Sovereign Lord King Jesus as ruler triumphant.
Amen.
