Psalm 20

John Chamberlain   -

June 16, 2024  Heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
We praise you for the example we have is this Psalm of your people interceding on behalf of
their King. They knew King David loved you and earnestly wanted to serve you. Throughout
his life, King David showed his utter dependence on you and not on himself. He demonstrated
humility in leadership which was a great example to the people he led. So when he was headed
into battle, it was natural for the people of Israel to call on you for assistance. They
demonstrated a confidence that you would protect David and help his plans to succeed.
We confess Father that at times we look to other “chariots and horses” to put our trust in.
Whether it is the security of our job, the joy of our family, the stability of the financial markets
or the effectiveness of medicine to treat illness. None of these come anywhere close to being
able to trust in the goodness of your name. Show us by the power of the Holy Spirit how to
make the desires of our hearts to be in direct alignment with the desires of your heart. Help us
to rise up and stand firm in our culture, which continues to move far away from you. May we
shine the light of your truth into the darkness around us, because we are living in the power of
your name and your name alone!
Heavenly Father, we want to remember our global partners B and T along with their boys. We
ask that you provide for the physical and spiritual needs of their family. We pray that you will
continue to bless their ministry by allowing B to have ongoing conversations with the college
students he led recently on a weeklong trip. We also pray that you will continue to work
through the relationship B and T have with S and H. Help them to brainstorm creative ways to
reach the people of their culture with the good news of the gospel.
On this Father’s Day, I lift up all of the dad’s here at Centennial church. May you help us in our
efforts to be godly men that will show our children how much we depend on you. Help us
demonstrate enough humility that our children see we don’t always have the answers. At the
same time, may they clearly see us lean on you, because you are trustworthy and will always
keep your promises.
May we encourage our children in the same way you encourage us in our faith journey with
you.

We pray this in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit….and all God’s people
said………Amen.
