Psalm 31

Our Heavenly Father,

How often in our alarm do we declare ourselves “Cut off from your sight” and we forget your unfailing love.

We feel spiritual powers pressed up against us, we feel pursued on all sides, we feel as though we have no friends, and that we are a horror to those we pass on the streets.

Our life is spent with sorrow, and our years with sighing; our strength fails because of our iniquity, and our bones waste away.

But Lord, you are the God who knows our affliction; you have known the distress of our soul.

And if there were any doubts about your knowledge of our distress, we turn our eyes to Jesus — the Word of God made flesh, who bore our iniquities, carried our sorrows, who knows our weakness, who was tried as we are and yet without sin.

Father, it’s to Him and to His gospel we ask you turn our eyes to this morning. Make your face, shining in the glory of Christ, to shine on us.

As Christ did even on the cross, help us to entrust our spirits to you and know that you hold us in your hands.

O LORD, let us not be put to shame, for we call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol. Let their lying lips of pride and contempt be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous.

They repay regard to worthless idols, but let our eyes be ever on you, Lord — for you are our rock and fortress.

Be with our global partners, Lord, both the ones now here and the ones around the world who carry the light of your gospel.

23 Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.

24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

In Jesus name we pray. Let all those who wait for the Lord say: Amen.
